At home, we call the pathway on the Northern side of the house Wisteria Lane. Yes, the name was borrowed from the past TV series Desperate Housewives, but it is so befitting to what we have.
We planted this Japanese Wisteria about 7 years ago and trained it to grow all along the path. It has grown so well that every Spring, our windows on the Northern side of the house are blocked out hundreds of two foot blooms, hanging down like grapes.
They smell very nice too. I highly recommend Japanese Wisteria over Chinese Wisteria, which has smaller blooms.
To tell the difference between Japanese & Chinese Wisteria, just look at the way their tendrils curl around something. They spiral in opposite directions – anticlockwise & clockwise respectively.
*sigh* love spring….
me too!
