Home grown spinach

I love being able to go to the backyard and harvest something I can use in the kitchen. Take these spinach leaves for example. We only have 10 spinach plants but they have given us a good 5 harvests of this size so far – and from the way they have grown since then, there will be more to come. Each leaf is about the size of an average face. Though they may look old and potentially fibrous, they were the complete opposite when cooked.

We didn’t do anything special in terms of feeding the plants – at the start we dug in some cow manure and watered them with seaweed emulsion every other week. As they started to grow, we added some organic chicken manure, again once a fortnight. This was the result.
